1265596 2012-03-20 07:30:00 Have you tried upgrading the router's firmware and the WiFi card's driver? Agent_24 (57)
1265597 2012-03-20 09:22:00 Have tried updating firmware but says no updates available, used windows to scan for adapters drivers but didn't find anything but will try manual search to be sure. smithinator (15240)
1265598 2012-03-20 09:46:00 Go to the site for the drivers. Dont rely on windowsupdate Speedy Gonzales (78)
1265599 2012-03-20 11:09:00 If you're using the adapter in a laptop - are you sure you've disabled the laptop's onboard wifi?

Have you had a play with Inssider?

1265601 2012-03-21 00:50:00 Inssider is a freebie that will let you see wifi activity your adapter is picking up. It can be optioned to display only 5gig stations. Google it for the link at metageeks. PeeCeeWorldly (15890)
1265602 2012-03-21 01:41:00 Is the lappy & router in the same room ??
In theory, 5Ghz will have less range than 2.4Ghz . Also less likely to easily transmit through walls & floors

So it may just be a range issue. A quick google will show many users having range issues with 5GHZ .

Otherwise take them both back as being incompatible or faulty . I dont think it will be a driver issue else 2.4 wouldnt work. ??

"your range issue is one of the known downsides of the 5ghz spectrum and one of the (many) reasons that 802.11a never took off. Although 2.4ghz is crowded, it requires less power to reach a respectable range, the 5ghz spectrum, although clearer and with greater available 'space' it requires considerably more power to go greater distances.

I've set up a number of mixed mode networks, and will usually use 5ghz for very local distribution (same office/floor, no walls), and 2.4ghz for between floor work.

To be perfectly honest there is often no need to go to 5ghz for most of my clients, and the added expense/frustration is often not worth the effort.

My computer is in the room next to the router

This has started to cross my mind, I think I'll try and get a hold of a laptop and try to connect to the 5GHZ network (using my adapter) while in the same room, just to see if it is a rage/interference issue.
