1241598 2011-11-03 21:01:00 It's a cost and availability issue mostly, imo. They have tons of USB2 controllers sitting in stock to use up, and USB3 controllers are still considerably more expensive. USB itself took a long time to really become ubiquitous.

I think, This USB3 technology is type of hardware interface that been enabled in the computers to speed-up the data transmission.... now it is popular technology to transfer the data in computers.... for more information contact the professionals....!

Spam with no link, wtf? *confused*

1241600 2011-11-03 21:57:00 Me thinks just comes down to price. If USB2 HD are cheaper for many why get USB3 and that unless you have a v new computer. Many won't upgrade their PCs, USB2 appears to be plenty fast enough for the masses.

But even if you add PCIe card, is that good enough or is the bus or whatever not quick enough?

1241601 2011-11-03 23:35:00 Just that I am used to technolgy becoming ubiquitous with more elacrity than this? Cicero (40)
1241602 2011-11-03 23:41:00 The problem is that for most, USB 2.0 is "good enough" and they have no incentive to demand USB 3.0 products.

If you look at Gigabit ethernet, it's been available since 1999 but most people still buy 100Mbit routers, switches, etc because 100Mbit is good enough for them (this annoys me, as gigabit equipment would likely be cheaper if there was more consumer demand).

1241603 2011-11-04 00:27:00 In my case, I want it because it's there.

Am I so different, I know the likes of Richard are not into the likes of USB 3, but you expect that of reactionaries.

1241604 2011-11-04 00:30:00 Most of the better motherboards offer it now, my GA-P67-UD4-B3 has it via an OEM controller as P67 doesn't support it (I think).
It's only the cheaper and/or older end of the scale that still doesn't. Slightly more annoying to me is the difficulty of finding a front drive bay adapter to add USB 3.0 to the front of my case (sorted now).

I have a USB 3.0 flash drive and I'm very impressed with it's speed, but other than that I can't think of much need for it myself. If you use external hard drives it would be worth having, but it's not a good time to be buying any new drives. Almost everything else I can think of doesn't need the speed.

1241605 2011-11-04 02:42:00 I have just been down this track for a customer who changed from tape, to external hard drives for backup. He bought USB3.0 drives and is a little miffed that they only work at USB2 speeds. ( he should have checked 1st)
He has now decided to upgrade his storage PC, but none of the major suppliers (HP ASUS Lenovo etc) sell pcs that support USB3.
Most have laptops in their range that do, but not desktops.
Most have an option of a USB3 expansion card with 1 or 2 ports
Since USB3 has been around since early 2010 I would have thought that most manufacturers would have started implementing this new technology into their range.

Cheers

My point entirely, something afoot do I hear you cry?

1241607 2011-11-04 04:14:00 Hard drives arent fast enough for USB 3 anyway, they barely can max out USB2

Still nice to have all the same
