1241507 2011-11-02 21:37:00 Mrs Micro and I have just done the annual garden thing in Taranaki. Was pleasantly surprised to see that even the cheaper motels ($90 - $100) had LCD TVs.

I took along my WD TV HD media player plus 1TB portable drive loaded up with Timeteam etc, in case the weather got bad. I remembered the power adapter, RGB, composite and audio leads BUT left the remote behind :( Totally useless without the remote of course

On the plus side, the 'motorbike' trick worked a treat and I now have permission to buy an android tablet :D

[For those who don't know, the motorbike trick is a standard way for husbands to get permission to buy technical stuff that might otherwise be frowned upon. It works like this. (PCtech should look away now.) When you and she are walking down the street every now and then you will see motorbikes parked on the footpath. You stop and look longingly and suggest that the $50k price tag is not an awful lot considering what you get etc etc. After the second time you say to her 'On the other hand, I might just get a Tablet instead.' :) You might think a wife would see though this and not let it happen a second time - but no! The next time you try the trick, she thinks back on how she solved the problem last time... :) :) ]

We have 197 episodes on disc. It's like a drama series. The 'plot' is finding out what's under the ground - a logic puzzle as much as anything. The 'characters' are what make the plot interesting. (rather like the characters on Pressf1. A motley bunch - clever, grumpy....) I asked Mrs Micro what her favourite character was. Stewart Ainsworth! the landscape archeologist. He was way down my list. I like John Gator, the geophys guy

They would be considered a bit down market if they didn't - especially as prices have come down a lot .

Hmm, motorbike, don't think that would work as husband would never believe I'd buy a motorbike .
I just suggest the (enter device of choice) straight up . Actually, I don't even do that, I just buy it .
