| 6566 | 2000-10-03 03:16:00 | Help! Has anyone seen my hard drive? My Quantum XP34300 SCSI hard drive developed a fault in May 2000. After failing to format I ran the Quantum test utility which reported a fault. The Quantum website informed me that the warranty was valid until 29 January 2001. The problem began when I discovered that the retailer from where it was purchased no longer exists. So my first point of contact was through Quantum Asia Pacific via the web. A helpful response arrived 12 hours later instructing me to return it to the New Zealand distributor, Tech Pacific. I phoned on the 10 May 2000 and a return form was faxed to me which I completed. The drive was packaged and couriered to Tech Pacific the same day. I received a call 2 days later saying I wasn?t on their customer list. I explained the situation and they said that I should have the drive within a month. After 4 weeks, and no drive, I rang and was not so politely told that I had never returned the drive. I sent a letter to the General Manager on 9 June 2000, with proof of delivery asking for an improvement in service. I received an email from Tech Pacific?s Product Manager, Jeff Lau on 12 June asking for more information. This was supplied and after some communication I was informed on 16 June that I could expect the drive to be returned within 4 weeks (sound familiar?). Two months later, I sent a demanding letter to the General Manager requesting that my repaired drive, or new equivalent, be sent to me within 7 days. Well it is now October, and I am still waiting. I can only presume that Tech Pacific intend to wait this out until the warranty expires. Where to from here?? Cheers Michael Tregidga |
