| 1267339 | 2012-03-29 01:15:00 | 2 queries please: i cannot find any security ware for my new nokia lumia 800 smartphone using Windows 7 for phones. I had assumed MS security essentials or avg etc would have such but its all for android (which of course is essential;) Any suggestions please? telecom retailer told me I could buy sim cards overseas for global roaming but my win7 manual states that the simcard is tailored specifically for this product and if removed will lose all data and reset phone. true or false? |

| 1267340 | 2012-03-29 03:10:00 | I was going to suggest eset ( nod32 version) BUT just spoke to the NZ suppliers, and the sales manager said, theres no need --- The windows 7 smartphone is a very locked down OS, meaning infections cant write to it, so eset decided theres no point.Thats why they only support up to Windows 6.5. | wainuitech (129) | ||
| 1267341 | 2012-03-29 05:34:00 | Windows Phone 7 (not Windows 7, they aren't the same ;)) is as wainuitech said a very locked down OS from a security point of view. For example, apps can pre-fill a text message but can't actually send it, or can take you to a settings page but can't actually change anything. Each app gets its own little chunk of storage space and can only write to that space, and cannot read or write anything else. The SIM card is not tailored to any specific phone. What the Telecom guy probably meant is that the phone is SIM locked, which means only SIM cards from that carrier can be used. This applies to all phones and is not Windows Phone specific. |
