1267132 2012-03-27 22:43:00 Both parents still have CDMA phones, and are looking at upgrading to XT. They want flip top, and the ability to txt and call, and that's really it.

The Telecom R1 looks like the best bet for something under $150, does anyone own one? I personally would probably steer clear of them, but there is nothing nokia is making that's a suitable price at the moment.

The main complaint I've heard from people with some telecom branded phones is the predictive txt has to be turned off every time a new txt is created - is this just user error or was it actually a 'feature' with some phones? Cheers :)

1267133 2012-03-27 23:31:00 IIRC that was actually a "feature" designed for older people who might be new to SMS messaging. Chilling_Silence (9)
1267134 2012-03-28 00:37:00 Wife had an R100 worst phone she ever had, switched to 2 degrees as Nokia don't make any decent cheap phones for XT, or if they do nobody stocks them gary67 (56)

1267136 2012-03-28 02:40:00 Thanks guys, thought that would probably be the case.

That Samsung Rugby looks pretty cool, never even heard of it before.

Is there any particular seller you would recommend on trademe paul?

1267138 2012-03-28 04:31:00 I did look at one of those, but they are getting pretty hard to find now. haven't actually been massively impressed with Nokia's flip tops, owned two myself, in one the ribbon cable died 1 month out of warranty and I couldn't find a replacement, and on the other one the loudspeaker died after a while. Still probably buy another one though haha. wratterus (105)

1267140 2012-03-29 21:15:00 SHMBO and myself both have the Samsung S5511T , was available as a special deal from Telecom for those needing to upgrade. A great little flip phone, neither of us have had any issues with them.

1267141 2012-03-29 22:04:00 I have the 3710 as my work phone, perfectly adequate but about twice the price of the R1. I think I'd buy a $200 LG smartphone before I'd buy myself a 3710 for home use honestly, a lot more phone for a lower price. But if they are set on a basic flip phone there isn't much choice. dugimodo (138)
