1266780 2012-03-26 07:22:00 I have just purchased a new computer fitted with a TSSTcorp CCDVDW SH-222AB SCSI CdRom.

My old player was a Universal Type that played the parallel-import DVDs OK. Until it swallowed 30K volts!

Now I am back to the old problem. Is there any practical work-around to achieve a universal; setting on a PC-mounted DVD?

1266781 2012-03-26 10:01:00 You could try something like VLC player. Or you'll have to find a firmware hack for that dvd / burner. So it'll play any zoned DVD. But firmware can also kill it, if you do something wrong Speedy Gonzales (78)
1266782 2012-03-26 17:53:00 How did you make it swallow 30k volts? Slankydudl (16687)
1266783 2012-03-26 17:58:00 AnyDVD or DVD genie are both software tools that make the PC act region free. The aren't free though. dugimodo (138)
1266784 2012-03-27 02:25:00 You can try this (www.dvdidle.com). Seems to be free for the moment tmrafi (5179)

Just do a search in Google.

1266786 2012-03-30 04:36:00 Ubuntu ignores region codes and encryption. So you dont need to buy a dvd backup/ripper as mentioned above

I have 11.04 as dual boot on my pc and downloaded the patch/codec to watch dvd, I use the default media player or vlc. No problems with nz, uk or us dvd's that I have tried.

I suppose you could install ubuntu within windows if you dont want a separate install.
