1266687 2012-03-25 09:47:00 Has anyone out there got a serviceable PSU for a Apple PowerMac G4 (Mirror Drive Door) that they would like to sell?
The Apple P/N is 614-0224 the Samsung Part no. is PSCF401601B(C).

1266688 2012-03-25 20:51:00 I'm guessing you have one that's blown up?

I noticed quite a few posts on the badcaps.net forums about repairing these. You might be interested in having a look. There's not much point in buying a new one, they all have problems. Better to fix it properly and then it will last longer.

1266690 2012-03-25 22:20:00 Check this especially: www.badcaps.net

Most of the capacitors used in these PSUs are rubbish, if you're lucky that's all that's wrong, just replace them all, and you'll get it working.

However faulty capacitors left too long can cause other damage. Fortunately there is lots of info on that forum and some guys who can help, if you need to do troubleshooting.

One big problem is the primary filter capacitor, as one person says here (www.badcaps.net):

IF the mains cap is a CapXon HP, it -MUST BE REPLACED-. There is a marked history of failures in this series of capacitor (even from a Ukraine electronics site via kc8adu) in which the cap either goes open or shorts then opens. It invariably causes the main switchers Q1 & Q2 to fail (STW20NM50FD) and the primary fuse (8A/250v, Slo-Blo, 5x20) to open (usually violently) as the blackened glass indicates. I recommend a replacement with a ceramic bodied fuse here (Schurter 0001.2513). Another failure can be the destruction of the inrush limiter TH2 (SCK-048).

1266691 2012-03-25 22:20:00 Thanks both of you for your comments, and yes you are right, I have a blown psu. I was looking for an easy way out.
I've read the badcaps advice and came to the conclusion that after a lot of time and effort even if I succeed in fixing it, the value of the working system would be so low as to be worthless.
Maybe I'll offer it for spares on trademe.

1266692 2012-03-25 22:57:00 Thanks Agent_24, after reading some of that thread I may just give it a shot. jinja_thom (4306)
1266693 2012-03-26 00:49:00 If you need to, start a thread on Badcaps forums in the PSU section, take some good photos of your PSU and describe what happened and you should get some help. Agent_24 (57)
