1266611 2012-03-24 02:41:00 OK, here's an interesting one. Without warning, Windows 7 Spider Solitaire has lost all my statistics and reverted to the "never played" state, i.e. it asks me what level I want, and uses the default cards etc. What's more, it is doing this every time I play, so it is not retaining any playing data at all. This is not the case with the other windows games (Solitaire FreeCell etc.)

WTF?

1266612 2012-03-24 04:17:00 You could try uninstalling it, then reinstall it.

To do this, From the control Panel, Programs and features, on the left, Turn windows feature ON or OFF - Expand Games, untick Spider Solitaire, Click OK, reboot the computer, go back and put the tick back it will then reinstall Spider Solitaire.

1266613 2012-03-24 04:28:00 Yeah, done that, didn't make any difference. Also deleted the folder, and also restored it from a backup. I'm guessing its a registry setting somewhere. Tony (4941)
1266614 2012-03-24 06:24:00 Does it do the same thing if you log onto your computer with a different account? WarNox (8772)
1266615 2012-03-24 09:10:00 Does it do the same thing if you log onto your computer with a different account?Gold Star to that man! I logged on to a different account and it was OK. So I logged back in to the usual account, deleted the appropriate folder in AppData for the user, and retried it - which is what I should have thought of in the first place. Bingo! It worked.

Don't know why it got clobbered in the first place, but at least I can get back to getting my win rate above 40%.

Thanks.

1266616 2012-03-24 20:13:00 Tony, what level?

Wife plays the game.

Lurking.

1266617 2012-03-24 20:23:00 Intermediate - two suits.

BTW I've discovered that the problem seems to be in the SpiderSolitaireSettings.xml file. I restored the version from just before the corruption to get back my scores, and the problem recurred. I guess I'll just have to keep restoring back until I find a clean file - unless anyone knows a way to clean up/edit it.

1266618 2012-03-24 21:20:00 Open the XML and see if there are some values that don't look right. It could be a damaged/corrupt file. When the game loads it rejects it and creates afresh.

Not sure, could be that.

If it is you could copy the stats data into a clean setting.xml and go from there.

Not sure how that game works so it might not actually be possible

1266619 2012-03-24 22:32:00 I sort of gave that a go. I opened a fresh file in Dreamweaver and a lot of it is binary data or compressed or something. There was some plain text that seemed to contain statistics, so I tried changing a bit of those to see what would happen. After it was closed I tried the game again and got the "fresh start" scenario again.

I've restored the file back from last week and it all seems OK now. It just means my stats are a bit out of date. :(
