1242846 2011-11-11 21:35:00 Yes and yes. Haven't really said anything in this thread, cause I know frig all about this kind of thing, (not that that stopped BM, mind you) but have been following it with interest, BM is really getting up my nose....

Well I can forgive you for admitting you know nothing about the contracting business.

But in my case I owned and ran two Construction Companies and worked on projects like the Kaimai Tunnel, Ruahihi Power Station, Arapuni Power station and dozens of Residential Sub-divisions, so maybe I have a better insight than you. ;)

But I can assure you that what's up your nose is of little interest to me.

1242847 2011-11-11 21:52:00 What a load of........

The accident rate is worked out per 100,000 full time employees in the construction workforce in the years given.

It is done that way so that the total number in each year doesn't screw the figures like you suggest.

That was explained in the Post had you bothered to read it properly. :groan:

The fact of more workers and better reporting of accidents these days as opposed to sweeping it under the carpet in your day and pretending nothing had gone wrong makes a huge difference. I'm leaving this thread now since I have my head in the air not in the sand and you can't teach an old dog new tricks, or get old people to accept that times have changed and that the good old days were maybe not as good as their rose coloured specs would have them believe.

Frankly I'm blown away by the attitudes and ignorance displayed by our older members on this forum they say wisdom comes with age, they certainly got that saying wrong.

And I did read your post and dismissed it as the same drivel as all the others you have been making lately. Good luck in your quest to turn back time to when people could die with impunity due to the attitudes of the I can't see it therefore it didn't happen times

1242848 2011-11-11 21:59:00 You do yourself no favours, just looking at your figures you can see that year is an abnormality, why even think thats proves anything?

By your logic if the miners were wearing vests then that proves that vests actually kill people.

That aside, the figures for work place related deaths have been manipulated and fudged for years, The notifications at OSH have never matched the notifications at ACC, If the numbers are growing then its because more legitimacy is being forced into the system, which has to happen so that the required controls can be put in place to ensure peoples safety.

If you are operating a bulldozer and someone comes into your work area then you are required to halt work and instruct them to move, and you are far more likely to spot them if they are wearing a vest.

It should be reported as an incident and the person spoken to about their responsibilities and work habits, and then the site addresses on the protocols of working around plant.

If you just let a site go then you have mayhem, and serious injury is guaranteed.

Well if the figures don’t suit you I guess they must be false and OSH shouldn’t have published them. :crying

As for the Miners, they could have been wearing pink G-Strings for all the good their regalia did them.

And I do have some idea about heavy machinery having owned a fair amount. Further, I can tell you that neither myself nor my staff ever had one accident that required a day off work in all the years I operated.

Might have been a bit lucky at times but the risk was always evaluated and mitigated where possible. ;)

Do you have any evidence at all to substantiate any of your claims?

No didn’t think so.

So it’s purely your opinion which is no more valuable than anyone else’s.

And the world has moved on, and you cant deal with it, so you become hot air rebel.

In this day and age you would be identified as a problem during the induction, and if you didn't fall into line you would be moved on.

And thats how it is.

No Metla, your world has moved on, not mine, and you have become indoctrinated (Brain Washed) with OSH BS.

The likes of religions has specialised in indoctrination for 100’s of years.

Not having undergone the indoctrination process, I am still able to sort the wheat from the chaff. ;)

But you are dead right about me being identified as a problem during the induction.

It would be an interesting contest with you trying to brain wash me and me trying to de-programme you.
