| 1242816 | 2011-11-11 04:11:00 | Well heres a little story from a mate of mine that occurred in Aus not NZ. ;) As we all know the Aussies are very competitive, even when it comes to degrees of stupidity, and they too are on this Safety High with everyone wearing Fluros and supplementary regalia and Road Cones (Witches Hats) everywhere. (God I wish I thought of making them things). Anyway, whilst plying the coast of Australia the mates ship was boarded at one of the ports by a young lady in her 20s, who went right about telling them how they should be doing their job. Well Taffy, who hasnt got one the longest of fuses, promptly went about telling her that when shed spent 52 years at sea without an accident she could come and talk to him. She packed her bags, the ship sailed, and she hasnt been seen since. But this is the stupidity of the Safety Industry, (and it is an Industry) when they get 20yos who have never done the job, but have read a book written by someone else who has never done the job either, and think theyre an authority. |

Again we agree. :D (This has to stop) But what would the mindset be of someone further up the chain of command sending a 20?yo to lecture a bunch of Seamen? Not just Seamen either, say Forestry Workers, Miners, on it goes, they probably all would have forgotten more about safety than any of the book experts would ever know. (well theyre still alive) Still, it gives the OSH mob a job, which they probably wouldnt have had otherwise, and makes them feel important. Now that is important. ;) |

And as for "Not just Seamen either, say Forestry Workers, Miners, on it goes, they probably all would have forgotten more about safety than any of the book experts would ever know. (well they’re still alive)" and the dead ones can't speak. |

She was just doing her job... OSH is something we will never get away from so i would say just get used to it. no point being an areshole about it |

I am sure that some of you who criticise the Health and Safety in Employment Act, and the office employed to administer it, which is a part of the Labour Department, are critical just because you think it is fashionable. If you had ever been hurt at work you would see things differently. The responsibility for ensuring a safe workplace depends not solely with the employer, or the Act, but also with you, the employee, and you are probably the most important part of all. Ah, anothjer apologist for the accident people. Cut the tip of my finger off last year, what a pity they hadn't given me a nice bright coat. We all agree that the work place should be safe, let the men and boss sort, called being responsible. |

Yeah, the trouble is Cicero that most of this country is now so p..s weak they cant look after themselves and rely completely on Nanny State. You can look forward to wet nursing them the rest of your life. Not me. ;) Stuff 'em, I'm out of here. :) |

They have a good ten year head start on us. |
