| 1243603 | 2011-11-19 21:02:00 | Or they might just bin it and send me nothing  Yeah I guess it's worth a try, as long as they don't try to charge me for the courier if they won't accept it. I suppose that's not likely. Sorry agent, but cracked screen they wont accept, as per the email received today: You will receive instructions for sending your product to Apple and an empty shipping box for you to use. Please don't use any other box, because if the product is damaged in shipping as a result of improper packaging, it will not be eligible for service and will be returned to you unrepaired. Do not include any other items, such as headphones or a power adapter, as they will not be returned to you. The ship time to Apple will be approximately five business days. Apple will send you an email when your product reaches the repair center. WARNING: Apple has discovered that some of the unauthorized unlocking programs available on the Internet may cause irreparable damage to the operating system software for your device. As part of the service process, Apple will update the operating system software to the latest version. IF YOU HAVE MODIFIED THE OPERATING SYSTEM SOFTWARE, YOUR DEVICE MAY BECOME PERMANENTLY INOPERABLE WHEN APPLE UPDATES THE SOFTWARE. Making unauthorized modifications to the operating system software violates Apple's software license agreement, and the inability to use your device due to unauthorized software modifications is not covered under your hardware warranty. |

| 1243604 | 2011-11-19 21:29:00 | I was going more for the jaded cynic. And until corrected I just assumed everyone treats mp3 players as disposable devices. I have 5 or 6 of them, they have made their way to the junk draw. Drop one of them off here then if you don't want them all!!!! PJ |

The critical bit is "Please don't use any other box, because if the product is damaged in shipping as a result of improper packaging, it will not be eligible for service and will be returned to you unrepaired." It doesn't say what will happen if a Nano arrives properly packed in the Apple box, but with a cracked screen. |

| 1243606 | 2011-11-19 21:50:00 | The Apple packaging will be good enough that there will need to be significant damage to the packaging in order for the device to be damaged. It will be obvious who the fraudsters are. | Greven (91) | ||

It will be obvious who the fraudsters are. That's right, its also why many suppliers like to have any parts returned if a warranty claim is made in the original packaging, as the original should be good enough to stop any damage, and if anything is broken in transit there would be obvious signs of rough handling on the box. Some Items I have sent back have been so well wrapped in bubble wrap and other protective packing you could just about use the box as a football, and never get any damaged. |

If packed correctly and there was no damage to the box I think they would be able to figure that out. All that tells us what I already knew - not using the packaging they send you is unacceptable. That says nothing about if they will accept one with faults in addition to the dodgy batteries. Whoops, seems like I missed all the other replies... The Apple packaging will be good enough that there will need to be significant damage to the packaging in order for the device to be damaged. It will be obvious who the fraudsters are. Why would it be fraud? Apple say nothing like "We will only accept Nanos that have no faults except the battery issue" - if they said that, AND you sent it pre-broken AND then tried to claim that it was damaged in transit then it would be fraud. The real situation here is different, there is not enough information from Apple to know what they will and won't accept. |

| 1243609 | 2011-11-19 22:50:00 | If it were only sent in to have the battery changed, and it still worked with a cracked screen, then I spose it would be how they are going to "repair" them. If they simply give a replacement unit then the cracked screen could be an issue, but if they simply change the battery then if it were me I'd be putting in a note saying the battery is in the faulty batch, but it still works. What they would do -- Who knows  |

Send it in, apple will either send you a replacement or your old one back/ |

That much I know - I guess they then use the old ones for spare parts etc. |

| 1243612 | 2011-11-20 19:05:00 | I would still send it in . No loss to you as they are paying the courier fee's each way . If they give you a refurbished one which you don't want, wack it on TradeME or offer it here or where ever, if they decline it and send you back the cracked screen player, so be it . At least you tried your luck . And if you come out of it on the plus side . . . . . . . . :clap |
