1243403 2011-11-14 19:42:00 It needs to be done as quickly as possible, no matter who pays.

I see the Greens creative way of paying for this is to tax the crap out of people who will benefit from it and hike up car parking fees..

:clap

Get people out of cars and onto trains. :D

Of course Labour's way of paying for this is canning the holiday highway, so you really should be questioning where National are getting the money to pay for a motorway with negative benefits...

And how much to the Wellingtonians pay for their nice new electric train sets??

$210 million I believe. Remembering of course our electric trains will be three car as opposed to their two, and will have enough power (2,720kW) to operate on the CBD rail link. ;)

1243405 2011-11-14 19:57:00 If Auckland want an inner-city rail loop, let them pay for it. Your so-called 'Holiday Highway' is actually SH1, and the main road into and out of Northland. This seriously needs upgrading well before Len Brown's train set. The only reason Labour christened it HH is because they have no seats up here, and nor are they likely to get any. It is just another indication of their derogatory naming of things, stemming from their politics of envy. The time will come when this road will be 4-laned to Whangarei and in future years to the Bay of Islands.
There is talk of urgency to put a motorway OUT of Wangerai, due to heavy demand.

Until they actually realise the North Shore exists and contributes a fair portion of traffic into the CBD at peak times, it's not gonna work. As an example, I live on the shore, work in the CBD. It's about 8km each way. I have to take at least 2 separate buses, for a total time and cost each way of about 1hr 15min and $8. That's 2.5hrs and $16 a day to travel 16km round trip. Both destinations are within 500m of major locations / landmarks, too, so it's not like I'm taking an extra bus to go out of the way to an odd place. It actually worked out cheaper and faster for me to drive in and park every day, than to catch the bus. It saves me 1.5 hours a day and halves the cost compared to busing.

So far, none of the Auckland transport plans I've seen address this situation very well. The Northern Busway project looked like they were going to make some effort, but appears to have stalled.

1243407 2011-11-14 20:37:00 One can only dream. The Greens plans look more like a 10-20 year plan, whereas rail to the North Shore might be further away than that. i40.tinypic.com pcuser42 (130)

1243411 2011-11-15 09:12:00 ImageF1 appears to have gone walkabout.Grrr, sorry :groan:. The provider who hosts the ImageF1 server has had a not-so-small oops with their router configuration; I went down to investigate the issue this evening. ImageF1 is running fine, it's just not accessible from the internet.

I have been assured that it should be sorted by midday tomorrow.
