Would you have police prosecuted everytime a road user failed in their obligation to use a vehicle in a safe manner? Well for a start I have read the HSE Act 1992 how about you. And secondly, I would not prosecute a policeman every time a road user used a vehicle in an unsafe manner, but I would prosecute a Vehicle Inspector that passed an unsafe vehicle that killed 29 people and was found to have been unsafe for a very long time. ;) |

If thats what you're thinking of I absolutely agree. Definitely one of the biggest miscarriages of justice ever seen in this country. I think the Berryman's won in the end after OSH had cost them their farm in legal bills. |

| 1242800 | 2011-11-10 19:48:00 | And don't forget the public hospitals where lots of people die each year from neglect, wrong medication, falls etc. No one ever got charged over that. If one person was to die from a fall on a shopping center OSH people would be there in there droves looking to pin it on the management. And then there was the judge this week who let that ****** out on bail which was apposed by the police then he went and killed this girl who he had kidnapped a week before. The judge is not accountable?? I guess it a case of "oh well that didn't go too well, next case" Lets not forget Cave Creek where the DOC viewing platform collapse killing people. No one was accountable for that but when some school kids were willed on a tourism venture the police throw the book at the private enterprise operators. When it comes to public servants no one is responsible but when it comes to private enterprise they all are.. |

Osh are good for handing out orange bloody vests and that is it. |

| 1242803 | 2011-11-10 20:34:00 | Do we know that OSH visited the Pike River Mine before the initial explosion? Michael Firmin, DoL mines inspector Not responsible for inspections at the Pike River mine when it was hit by an explosion last November. His last inspection of the mine was in 2008. Currently the only mines inspector. The other inspector recently left. To his knowledge no employees or health and safety reps rang inspectors with health and safety concerns. Would be advantage to report to a chief mines inspector. He lacked expertise on some technical issues. Any "proactive" inspection would be notified in advance. Little coordination between DoL and Mines Rescue. He had wanted to address that before the Pike River explosions. Frustrated by a lack of structured professional development. No review of inspections adequacy since disaster. Plans to help audit mines stymied by a lack of funding. From here:- www.safeguard.co.nz |

And then, years later, the Government pays the Berrymans $150,000 in compensation. Meanwhile the Berryman's have lost their farm and been bankrupted. The pricks in OSH that pushed that case should still be in Jail. |
