| 1267367 | 2012-03-29 19:39:00 | I got a roll of cable from Cables Direct, some RJ11 plugs from Jaycar, & a crimper and make-to-measure. Some houses just don't have a phonejack where you need it  Haven't had any problems with 5-10m cables. Seen some el-weirdo setups and people wondering why their connection kept dropping. |

The other thing I've thought of trying is to set up my laptop close to the wallsocket and see if the problems go away. The telephone cable has been there much longer than the connection problems though. I've been trying to use my own router rather than my friend's to see if that made a difference. His router appears to work OK in that all the lights come on, but when I tried mine (which works fine at my place), the DSL light either refused to come on at all, or took a loooong time to come on (like 10 minutes) or came on and then went off again. He says he has had the phone line checked and it is supposed to be OK. |

His modem syncs up ok but yours has trouble the phone line has been checked at least once His internet drops off or loses the connection is that the problem? A few questions then ; what is the connection speed, receive level, and signal to noise ratio - you can get these by logging into the router usually what model routers have you tried and which one works? Who is the ISP? Is the phone noisy at all and does it have any problems? do you have another filter you can try? because it's using plug in filters you can easily unplug everything from the phone jack and connect the router directly with a short cable temporarily to test and eliminate the local cabling and filter (filters often fail and cause issues). You can also try any other jackpoint in the house to see if the problem persists. Try and be methodical and eliminate things one at a time, changing too much just means bactracking to figure out what fixed it. |

The phone line is plugged into the filter. I think the ADSL line should be plugged into the filter as well. Is that right? The filter filters out the high frequency broadbnand puts on the line, which phones don't like. ADSL Modem = no filter Phone, fax, dialup modem = filter So make sure that it is how it is set up. The filters have one side marked ADSL, because what is plugged into that side, is not filtered. |
