1242613 2011-11-09 19:31:00 There is a question on the NZ Departure card that asks if you are leaving permanently or away on holiday.

I don't have a NZ Departure card in front of me to give you the exact question asked.

Also, on the Australian Arrival's card is a similar question asking if you are entering permanently or just visiting.

And there is a lot of information / data sharing between NZ and Australian Immigration and Customs so there would be a degree of stat collection from that.

1242616 2011-11-10 00:32:00 Wonder how long before the AU Gov requires visas to go to Ozz like they required passports in the 1980s. I remember my first time there in 1980 no passport required but the next time was 1988 and i did have to have one. Something to do with people from the Pacific Islands coming to NZ then jumping on the next plane to Ozz.. paulw (1826)

Plenty of Europeans do that too as NZ is easier to get into first than Oz

1242618 2011-11-10 01:33:00 I don’t think the Mr Asia drug running helped our cause either .

Aus is a great place for those with a bit of get up and go . My kids are there along with the grandkids and none of them will be back .

However, if you can’t take a bit of a ribbing and dish it out you’ll be cannon fodder .

There are a few on this forum who wouldn’t last 10 minutes . ;)

But the best I’ve heard the situation summed up was by and old Digger I was having a beer with in the Beerwah RSL when he said, “Well Mate, if I was in the sh . t and couldn’t have an Aussie on my shoulder I’d want a Kiwi” .

I told him for most of us the feeling was mutual, so he handed me his schooner and advised it was my shout . Aussies are like that . :D

Also some of their words of approval and endearment take some getting used of too . ;)
