1266751 2012-03-26 01:14:00 With a new W7 PC how can I let Nanny Microsoft let me paste to My Documents from other PC’s in my home network. When go into “share with” there is a lock on with “nobody”.
How do I get rid of this?!
Many thanks

1266752 2012-03-26 01:33:00 This has been asked many times and answered in this form. BUT here we go again. ;)

Click start, type in Sharing, select manage advanced sharing settings - in the window that opens - Make sure the setting are as shownin the Pic Below, esp the network discovery ON and password protected sharing is OFF.

Make sure you are NOT using Home-group, its a PITA and can cause more problems that it fixes.
Make sure you are all on the same workgroup.

Next share the folder you want the proper way - Its actually a two stage security step. I made a rough video ages ago showing exactly how to do it posted On Youtube (www.youtube.com) it shows making a new Folder, but it works on all folders,You may want to use a bigger window than youtubes default to see it easier.

1266753 2012-03-26 02:12:00 Yeah thanks but have already done all that. Can “see” My Docs from the other PC’s – the terminology PITA means nothing and all this whole thing reinforces my (and many others) comments in my other post about “stupid me got a new PC”.
Speedy – may need your help – again!

1266754 2012-03-26 02:36:00 If its not sharing then theres a setting not right. Could be something thats really obvious if you can see the screen- one thing that will really throw spanner in the works is some people have two computers with the same name -- that would stop it.

Could also be the security software if its not configured right, can be the persons account is not an admin account, Every one that I have seen thats given problems has usually been a setting someplace, which goes back to a comment made in the other post -- Knowing the Software :)

If all the basics are right and it was setup correctly in the first place then it will share and can be shared/seen - I set up hundreds ( literally) and never had a problem.

1266755 2012-03-26 02:55:00 “stupid me got a new PC”.

You try some stuff on a Mac, simple on a PC, PITA on a mac.

1266757 2012-03-26 03:05:00 You try setting up file sharing from windows to Mac or vice versa, Stuffed, now THAT is a PITA.

I also have setup hundreds of PCs sharing from windows 7, and as long as the guidelines laid out by Wainui are followed, never had any issues at all. Still think you should employ a good local tech to come out onsite and help you get things running as you need. :2cents:
