2011-11-09 00:38:00 | The latest AA smartfuel/fuel-discount-rewards-card/ (www.aa.co.nz) What a joke. What they dont tell you is that you have to jump through hoops, and no places give the discounts as they advertised. While he said its an example in their promotion material, Spend $15 - Save 2 cents, Spend $50 Save 20 cents etc, they are ONLY examples and NOT the actual real way it works or savings. Just told the guy at AA that basically the way they advertise on their broachers, and web site ad is coming close to false advertising. Example put $30 in this morning, Caltex said not enough you have to spend at least $40 to get 2 cent Whipty-bloody-do - even then the maximum saving you would get 4 cents/Ltr. I asked was there any one actually even close to offering the pricing they advertise along with the same savings as per the advert -- reply NO!!!! He wasn't to impressed when I said - sh1t easier to go to Pak-N- Save , do your shopping and get a minimum of 6 cents every time, or when they often do specials, 20 cents a Ltr off guaranteed. Strange he never answered that comment. ;) Rant over. :)

2011-11-09 00:49:00 | Wainuitech, we were a bit confused with AA's new scheme, something not hard to do! When husband filled up at Caltex yesterday he handed over his AA card and promptly received 6 cents a litre off the usual price. Bearing in mind that each time we fill up we just about need another mortgage. From what the attendant said, we took it that by using the card for other things, apparently the points accumulate and can be used for bigger fuel savings. Maybe their explanation of how it really works isn't clear enough. Or maybe we just have the wrong end of the stick.....again!!

2011-11-09 00:55:00 | THe biggest problem I have with it is that any cents off per litre you may earn, from the retailers that support it, expire at the end of the month following the month you got them. So the longest your rewards last is two months! My old AA rewards points didn't expire like this....

2011-11-09 01:39:00 | Yeah, this scheme is a b it ridiculous, and they explain it REALLY badly. They honestly needed a couple of major general retailers (supermarkets, department stores etc) not just a few specialty stores. | inphinity (7274) | |
2011-11-09 01:52:00 | I have no interest in getting a card which must be swiped at many shops to earn points. With the exception of the AA rewards card which was only ever used at BP, I have never owned a loyalty card I prefer my private shopping details to be only known by VISA. A couple of years ago I read an article about the data one of the uk supermarkets released in response to a customers freedom of information enquiry, listed everything that had been bought the year before including how things were paid for, the name of the checkout chick, whether you are cash vrs electronic buyer, what banks account/switch (=eftpos) used.... (puts on tin hat again)

2011-11-09 02:17:00 | From what the attendant said, we took it that by using the card for other things, apparently the points accumulate and can be used for bigger fuel savings Thats where the advertising is mis-leading. When I spoke to the guy at AA, he said if you were already a AA Member you can get more at some places. BUT, and its a huge but -- ONLY if the service station is running a higher promotion at the time. Meaning the tight as a fishes back side Caltex over here wouldn't go any higher than 4cents a ltr discount - (a person I was discussing this with had also asked them) and it says on their sign advertising out side as well "upto 4 Cents". As the guy at AA explained, assuming you have the points (lets say as an example 200 points), you can go to one service station and they may give you a 4 cent discount, yet another service station may offer 10, 15 or 20 cents discount for the same amount of points. NOTHING is the same at each place. SWMBO goes there sometimes, and while they take other peoples discount vouchers, even if its a 6 cent from Pak-N-Save, they will ONLY discount by 4 cents. When we do the shopping at Pak-N-Save we just duck across the road to their station and fill up -- I can honestly say the lowest discount we had has been 6 cents a Ltr off, with some at 20 cents Ltr discount. Real nice to see the price under $2 / Ltr

2011-11-09 03:32:00 | I totally agree, it is a rip off! As I can only afford to put in $20 a week petrol, I am never going to get any rewards at all by the looks of it. At least with the old system I got 1 point a week, pathetic as it was. Pak n Save in Taupo only give 4c off per litre on their vouchers, maybe that is because they don't have a gas station attached? | 1242568 | 2011-11-09 04:13:00 | AA has become very commercialised and turned into a profit making organisation rather than a community service provider for its members. It was certainly not like this initially. | bk T (215) | |
2011-11-09 04:46:00 | look at before with the aa qantas card not as clear as flybuys. now just use flybuys and airnz. i just use where cheaper with the credit card ie not new worlds not telecom they still a partner lol. Get points with cc too going to non partners. And not really airnz unless grabaseat cos cheaper others. we get appliance for free, ie kitchen stuff not really airfares now not using airnz to get mileage. .using the credit card is using the free interest advance purchase thing. thought about switching to another programme until hassle to apply for other credit card etc.. Since the lack of mileage thought of thai airways cos its still star alliance and quite easy get silver status if nothing else lol certainly no freebies, the shop are in Asia. petrol we just use supermarket vouchers lol. get at least something. 40l usually. | Nomad (952) | |
