| 6629 | 2000-10-08 07:30:00 | I have an external PacComm packet controller modem, which acts as an interface between a radio and a computer. The modem communicates with the computer through a serial port using RS-232C signal levels. I am using a Notebook with an Enhanced EZ TouchPad to control the mouse. I use an application called WinPack which is a Windows Packet terminal. I have been using this set up for a long time but in the pass few weeks I have run into a problem that not even my computer Help Desk can fix. When I connect this modem to the Serial port and switch it on, all my applications I am using lock up. Not even the mouse pointer will move. If I press Ctrl-Alt-Del, I get a message telling me that 'Msgsrv32 is not responding'. The same applies when I boot up my computer, if my modem is switched on, Windows won't fully load until I press Ctrl-Alt-Del, and End Task Msgsrv32. The Help Desk had me check many areas of the computer and in the end told me to reload Windows98. That didn't work so they told me to format my hard drive and start again, something I didn't need to do. It might help take WinPack out of the equation, because it isn't a WinPack problem. I tried a simple terminal program with the same results. There are no IRQ conflicts and the COM port is correctly set in Device Manager. Configuration options for the COM port in the BIOS has been checked. The modem works okay on other computers using the same OS and software. What is Msgsrv32.exe used for and how can I fixed the problem. Thank you. Regards, Kevin Hampshire |
