| 6849 | 2000-10-27 05:04:00 | I have an Aztech 56k PCI winmodem which is'nt too cheap and i use Zfree and Freenet isp's. My problem is that often when dialing in it will dial ok, then sit on Verifying Username and password and then say 'unable to establish connection, check your network settings.' now this is very annoying because it sometimes lets me in, and if i pick up the phone during dialing (forcing a lower connection) it ALWAYS connects. What do u think is wrong? i have an extension cable from my room to the phone jack, TCP/IP protocol (and a home network also on TCP/IP), IPX, and i have set my modem speed to 57,600 but it doesnt seem to make any difference. If i connect very early in the morning or late at night i dont have as much trouble. But how come i can always connect at a lower speed? One last question - my common connection speed to both ISP's is 42,667bps. But at a friends house he's connecting to Zfee at 49,900bps. What do u think im doing wrong here? or do i just have a cheap-o modem? Once i connected at 51,440bps but the connection dropped instantly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. MArcus |
