| 7117 | 2000-11-16 12:21:00 | Can anyone help me with the following two (related?) problems which are driving me up the wall? 1) During boot up of my Win98 (1st E) home PC, an unwanted 'Dial-up Connection' window appears and if I leave it on screen booting will actually stop. I can only get rid of it by pressing 'cancel' after which the same window pops up again within a second or so. I have to wait patiently to repeat 'cancel' up to 4 times before the booting process finally finishes. 2) In tandem and roughly after the first 'Dial up connection' window appears I also get the 'Enter Windows Password' window pop up. Since I don't use or want a password, I cancel this window only once. It thankfully it does not reappear again. This particular window claims that ' if you don't enter a password you will not see this window again'. This is quite untrue, it comes back every time without fail. My PC has never done this before in the two years since I've had the machine and it seems only to have started after I installed Norton System Works2000. I have used Norton Utilities V3.0 until then without any hassle. Otherwise everything works fine including Norton and the dial-up connection performs without any trouble when I do want to use it. I have looked everywhere I could think of to get rid of this effect but sofar to no avail. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? I will be very gratefull. Also in the same 'Dial-up connection' window the little square marked 'save password' is greyed out. How can I activate this again to save my password? Peter Badart |
