7110 2000-11-13 08:43:00 I've got an HP7200i CDWriter. It writes normal CDRs very well, but can't write CDRWs. I'm using Adaptec's DirectCD 3.01e, the very latest version, under Win98. After talking to Adaptec and HP, I have without success taken all precautionary measures, like eliminating dodgy drivers, checking my IDE channels and their settings, checking the ATAPI drivers, etc. I try to format HP CDs C4438A for Packet Writing, and they just won't work. I formatted two Kodak CDRWs well, but stuffed the third. Errors I get after failed formatting attempts are that 'the device is not ready', or 'can't write to the CD', or '0x8020401'. The latest failure causes the CD in the 7200 drive to be ignored at all; it thinks the drive is empty. This CD is now wasted. Are the rewritable CDs affected by magnetic fields? My retailer pulls them all across a strong magnet at purchase time to swith off the anti-theft tag on the package. I've tried to solve this problem for many months, but no luck. Guest (0)
