2012-04-03 23:56:00 | I am working on a hard drive for a friend and no matter what I do I cannot get it to register as connected. Is there anyone in the Christchurch area that has the gear and knowledge to take a look at this for me. The data is important but not important enough for the thousands of dollars it takes to have it professionally recovered. Post or PM me please.

2012-04-04 00:08:00 | Is it one of the seagate hdds thats affected by the firmware bug? Does it get detected in the BIOS? If it doesnt it maybe one of these affected hdd's | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2012-04-04 00:28:00 | If it's a Seagate with the firmware issue they can usually be recovered quite easily, I've done it before | Agent_24 (57) | |
2012-04-04 00:34:00 | Same here with the Seagate, I love getting data back off those drives, great fun. :D Post the model/serial numbers and the firmware revision off the top of the drive.

2012-04-04 07:42:00 | You could try installing the fw update within windows. Or burn the ISO then boot from it. See if it works (knowledge.seagate.com) It looks like this hdd can click with previous versions of the firmware as well. CC35 may fix this, if its got this issue

The drives affected are here: seagate.custkb.com Yours looks like it may be more similar to what may be affecting the ST2000DL003 drives: forums.seagate.com |

2012-04-04 08:16:00 | Thats not great news Agent but thanks for the update. Speedy the drive will not show up in windows at all so don't see how to upgrade the firmware on it that way.
