1267611 2012-03-30 12:19:00 I have a VCD with a few videos on it and when I try to open the disc , it doesn't allow.
I want to copy the whole disc to the hard drive. That also didnt happen :(

So,I tried the following but these softwares were almost hung up :( ----->

Recovery Toolbox for CD Free
bad-cd-repair-pro-s32-downloader
Copy it anyway 2.4
Roadkil's unstoppable copier version 5.2
:(:(

Is there an easy way around this, please?

1267613 2012-03-30 12:36:00 If you have a Linux system handy, dd_rescue will do a pretty good job of it. Note that nothing will be able to recover the unreadable bits of the disk if the error-correction on the disk isn't sufficient to recreate it, but dd_rescue will get everything else back for you.

Note that once you have the disk content back, you may also need to repair the video files - it depends how badly they're damaged, and in which areas of the file.

dd_rescue is a Linux tool - it won't run on Windows. If you don't have a Linux system, then something like this (http://www.sysresccd.org/) will suffice, and comes with dd_rescue installed out of the box.

Alternatively, someone else may be able to recommend a decent Windows alternative.

1267617 2012-03-30 20:21:00 Try isobuster ( . isobuster . com/isobuster . php" target="_blank">www . isobuster . com) The free portion of it may do what you want .

Just a bit of advice, dont put Urgent in the titles of threads, not unless its life or death, people tend to be less helpful when threads are titled like that .

Welcome to PF1 :)

1267618 2012-03-30 20:27:00 I use to play around with TMPEgenc for extracting VCD's (been so long though) which has a free version (www.tmpgenc.net) and other versions. (www.tmpgenc.net) You could try it on it's own for repair, (www.gromkov.com) or go to Video Help com and follow this tutorial. (forum.videohelp.com) But requires Isobuster for extracting, which I think is not free, and appears no suitable free alternatives. (alternativeto.net) kahawai chaser (3545)
1267619 2012-03-30 23:14:00 I trust it's nothing stupid like a disc that wasn't finalised.

If you look at the underside (data side) of the disc, starting from the inner-most part near the hub, what proportion of the disc is written? (shown as a slightly darker ring). If there's only a mm or less of darkened area then it's likely there isn't a file to recover.
