1267485 2012-03-30 00:54:00 Ive got a Compaq Presario V6000 and chucked narwhal in but it will only run "classic" not the full Unity.

Anyone Know if I can get it to run full power? Or is my system not powerful enough?

Thanks.

1267486 2012-03-30 03:13:00 You might need the non-free video drivers.
What video card does it have?

1267487 2012-03-30 04:47:00 NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 according to google.

What do you mean by unity not working ie crashes, too slow

Are the drivers up to date ?

Which CPU do you have?

1267488 2012-03-30 10:57:00 If Unity doesn't work you're lucky, in my opinion!

But if you actually want Unity and you have a GeForce video card, go into "system settings" and click "additional drivers" and install the non-free nvidia drivers as suggested.

1267489 2012-03-30 20:07:00 Thats one of the things that doesnt work. It just wont start at all. Flash wont install. Cant even load up games from usb. keeps saying "Package Header missing" On everything I try.

I have no idea whats inside this thing. Im sure it was bought new from a shop so stock standard. (I got it second hand) Had Vista but thought ubuntu would be better......

Dont have the start up to get vista back either... Oh well

1267490 2012-03-30 21:13:00 Check that /etc/apt/sources.list contains the correct entries for ubuntu numpty narwhale then open a root terminal an do 'aptitude update && aptitude upgrade'.
Take careful note if there are any error msgs.
That should get you an up to date system, then try the proprietary driver magic-installer-button again.

1267492 2012-04-01 06:32:00 Pages like this askubuntu.com probably have the answer - looks like a corrupted package database?? johnd (85)
1267493 2012-04-01 10:18:00 You should just be able to delete/rename/move that file and it will get rebuilt with an 'aptitude update' fred_fish (15241)

This is the end of the update for whats missing. I tried to remove them through the terminal but says its not there so I followed instructions off one of your links and got something happening then it ended like that....
