1244512	2011-11-20 22:33:00	Why is it that although there is a dedicated maori television channel, we have to put up with Te Karere and some marae programme on TVNZ 7 and TV One? The maori channel only broadcasts half the day. If they were to be on air all day then there would be air time available for these programmes and we would not have to put up with this jabbering mumbo jumbo. I realise that my opinion is not PC at all but I don't really care. I fail to see why we should all be funding maori television, in our taxes, only to see it not being used as much as it could be and then having to put up with this maori rubbish when it should be consigned to the maori channel where it belongs. We need to banish maori programmes to the maori television channel and leave the European channels free of this maori junk!	Ulsterman (12815)

1244514	2011-11-20 22:50:00	I think those maori shows are repeats as well. But what alternative could be screened? Maybe a range of NZ/Overseas documentaries, but could be costly to buy or produce. Mumbo jumbo/Maori Rubbish? How so?	kahawai chaser (3545)

In my defense, I do not agree with Ulsterman. Maori culture is a part of New Zealand, and as Speedy said, if you don't like it, don't watch it. I don't watch them, I don't even know what shows you're talking about! TV is always full of crap. That's why downloading the shows you actually like via Bittorrent is so much more appealing! 1244519	2011-11-20 23:50:00	NZ Maori pay tax at the same rate as all other tax payers. I find it very hard to get upset because there are Maori programs shown on free to air TV. I just never watch them. Here are a lot more important things to get grumpy about :)	CliveM (6007)
1244520	2011-11-21 00:43:00	They are there to show the State is committing itself to the revival and preservation of the Maori language through media (ie: Television). It is costing the tax payer a bomb, while other channels are subsidised through private advertising, Maori TV is advert free. But this is what should happen... 1. The state forms a dedicated News and Current Affairs channel and all news, cultural, current affairs, local, etc programmes be put on that. (They can have Maori, Pacific Island, Asian, Arabic, Spanish, English news etc, what ever they want to show). 2. The state should dump Maori TV, it is race-based and wrong. 1244521	2011-11-21 01:06:00	For #^%$#$^ sake You are saying that State TV CANNOT cater for a 10% slice of NZ on TV1 ?? Sounds more like racism rearing its ugly head, yet again. Nothing to do with being PC or not. Anything Maori, just put the boot in. So we shouldnt have any Xmas programs , as 85% on NZ arnt practicing church go-ers ?? No Rugby either, as 75% of us arnt interested & their are sports channels for that sort of thing etc etc etc	1101 (13337)
