1244384 2011-11-19 23:33:00 painting the outside of a timber weatherboard house. the little metal joiners that join the boards are slightly corrroded. do i just sand them back and then just slap the house paint over the top or do i need to prime them with a specific metal primer first to arrest any further corosion.

cheers

1244385 2011-11-19 23:35:00 You must get rid of the rust and prime the metal before proceeding with the job. CliveM (6007)

prime with the normal house paint primer or a different one specifically for steel/metal ?

1244388 2011-11-20 01:05:00 If they're galvanised, then the more you sand them the faster they'll corrode in future.

If they're aluminium then be as mean as you like to them.
