1244257 2011-11-18 08:46:00 What are my chances of getting a positive response from Playtech over a ASUS laptop with a busted hinge.
Its still in warranty till Feb 2012

Will I need the CGA?

1244258 2011-11-18 09:44:00 Unlikely.

CGA and (usually) warranty won't cove wear and tear or accidental issues.
Depending on your contents insurance's excess you could go that way...

1244259 2011-11-20 19:40:00 My experience with Playtech has always been positive in terms of prompt response, but with this sort of issue it will be up to Asus to determine if the hinge is busted because of a manufacturing defect (which they'd cover) or from misuse or wear & tear (which they probably won't). CGA won't support you unless it is broken because of shoddy manufacture, and if that is the cause, Asus will likely front before you need to go down that path anyway. That said, I'm yet to see an Asus laptop hinge break from anything other than mistreatment. inphinity (7274)
1244260 2011-11-20 20:23:00 PLaytech directed me back to Asus.
The laptop has been well cared for.

1244262 2011-11-21 01:00:00 It may be a seized hinge???? , seized open or closed.
A seized hinge will cause the case around the hinge to break.
That would be a faulty part, not wear & tear.

I cant imagine any amount of wear & tear causing a NB hinge to fail in 1year. Would only be bad design if it couldnt last
at least the warranty period.
If your car door fell off within a year, that couldnt be called normal wear & tear

Hmm, did I miss something, how do we know it is less than a year old?

1244264 2011-11-21 02:47:00 It has a 24 month warranty that expires in February. DeSade (984)
