1244746 2011-11-22 05:06:00 I have found that there is a serious lacking in civics education in schools.

Let me put it to you this way. When I turned 18 and was preparing to vote for the first time I realised I knew very little about politics. I had to ask my parents what "left-right wing" meant! I still find it confusing and I'm 28 !

I remember voting for greens when I was 18 - young and stupid!

Now - well I was leaning towards National. My reasoning was that Key has a business mind and is trying to get the country out of debt. This means making some sacrifices (asset sales) but ultimately worth it (?).

My main issue is lack of information. If I was to solely rely on the 6pm news I know that is not going to be enough.

Many forums that I frequent have similar threads and they tend to be quite anti National & Labour.

Winston Peters is definitively out for me and Goff does not fill me with confidence that he has what it takes to run the country.

This election is the most difficult one for me yet...

I will keep reading!

* If anyone has any links to good websites where I can get more information to make a better choice would be much appreciated!

1244749 2011-11-22 06:14:00 Good point there

The way I see it, B.M. raises some good points in the first post, and I'm prepared to give Goff a chance, so I'll be voting Labour (but I'm also happy to vote Greens).

Well I hope you don't use the fast broadband National are putting in !

Years ago in the late 60s and early 70's they used to put out 20 page booklets called Manifesto's which listed all of their polices.

But then they got caught out and no longer do it !

Dead right Digby and they did it way back in the 1900’s to .

I know because one of my forefathers became somewhat famous because he refused to pay some Tax and was taken to Court . A big deal in those days .

His defence was that he had voted for that particular Government on the basis that they were not going to introduce that particular tax and produced their Manifesto to prove it .

He actually won the case as the Judge agreed with him .

Might be worth revisiting as we have a Precedent . :)

Just can't take to be dictated to by the marginal voters.

Well can you explain why it was thrown out having been fully tested.

1244754 2011-11-22 07:04:00 While not trying to tell anyone how to vote, you need to realise that voting for anyone other than the government is, obviously, taking votes away from the government and in so doing is, in effect, voting for the next most popular party which is Labour.

Giving your vote to anyone but National is a vote for Labour. Yes, one or two of the minor parties may win a seat or two but Labour will still have more seats than anyone else after National, so Labour will still be the only effective opposition. You're just kidding yourself if you vote for anyone else except National or Labour.
BS.

1244755 2011-11-22 07:05:00 I think it is completely irrelevant whether or not Green party members have been members of, or linked to, a communist party some time in the distant past. So what? What is it about their "basic thinking" that bothers you?

Come on, vote Green, it is the way of the future.
Just as well what you think doesn't really matter.:D
