1243828 2011-11-16 22:42:00 While I'm on the topic, any thoughts on the best type of bag? I thought a backpack designed to hold a laptop but nooo...apparently that looks nerdy! Girls...!

I'll get her a shoulder bag if thats what she wants but anybody know what students prefer?

1243829 2011-11-16 22:56:00 Just a note.
If you get a warrnty ext. MAKE SURE ITS FROM THE MANUFACTURER.

Some of these warranty extensions.. arnt
It may be through a 3rd party overseas based company, that will make it very very very hard to actually
make a claim. The warranty ext may have no connection to the manufacturer or distributor.

Ive had this with one of my customers, turns out her warranty ext was with some dodgy Aus insurance company.
After 2 weeks of just trying to make a claim(not get a actual repair) she had to give up. Took the whole thing back
to the retailer for them to sort out .

So whaddya reckon about these extended warranties?

What??!! You're a lawyer! You need to ask? CGA.
All the extended warranties are a con - ask to read the small print on one first, I bet you'd love it!

1243831 2011-11-17 01:51:00 Maybe let her choose the bag .
Mac people get those sleeves .

Other people - some guys laptop messenger bags which they pop their other stuff in it . . .
Some girls - get the traditional shoulder bags and have their own largish handbag . . .

Old fellas have those roomy laptop bags where you can have a laptop and your portfolio . . . .

1243832 2011-11-17 02:06:00 I may have a spare laptop bag if she wants it? bob_doe_nz (92)

That is very thoughtful Bob, I'll talk to her.

As for the Consumer Guarantee Act, its very useful but I can say from experience that it can be a cumbersome process to get satisfaction. Last claim I made against Canon it took 2 months, I barely won (even though I was right!!) and it took another month for the replacement camera to turn up.

Plus my daughter will be living 250km away. If her laptop has a problem, she'll need it sorted asap. To that extent a warranty from HN or NL gives her peace of mind. Not me.

However I won't get a warranty, will get an external HD, and hope I don't have to drive to Dunedin suddenly one day. :D

1243834 2011-11-17 09:16:00 Extended Warranty :( Not worth it at all. Just buy the laptop, the add ons is where they make their money. radium (8645)
1243835 2011-11-18 09:33:00 I was fooled into buying nortons, cheap bag, 4gb USB and mouse for $99 4-5 years ago with a laptop, now I regret it big time .

No wonder that laptop use to be slow until I put 7 on it . (vista + norton :( ) .
