| 1268473 | 2012-04-05 12:44:00 | Trying to sort out a network here in the Beijing appt. Wireless doesn't cut through the concrete nicely. Conveniently the appt has a patch panel (with 5x ports) and 5 ethernet jacks around the house. Not so convenient is the lack of supporting diagrams/notes or labels for which cable goes to each port and the location of that port. The panel looks as in attatchment. 3692 The plan is to have the wireless router in the "office" and run a Ethernet cable from the router into the ethernet socket in the office to link it to the one in the socket in the "lounge" a router in AP mode will extend the network to the rest of the house. The problem is I have no idea how the panel is set up. No clue what so ever. All I have determined so far is: via "hit and miss" testing is that the office is connected to one of the bedroom sockets. No device can be detected on any socket on the patch panel (ie, when a device is connected to an ethernet socket in a room, it cant be picked up on the patch panel) As far as I can tell the 3x remaining room sockets are not connected (or wiring is bad) since no inter connectivity can be established This probably seems like gibberish, if anyone can make sense of what is going on, or how I can figure out how it is put together that would be nice! Thanks! |

Plug the big device into the room socket and set it to run, then use the small terminator to check each of the sockets on the Patch Panel side. This should show you if theres any connectivity and any incorrect wiring. | stormdragon (6013) | ||
