| 7160 | 2000-11-19 07:17:00 | Have just upgraded from Win 95 to Win 98SE as was geeting system freeze/hang occasionally - mainly Word. However, in Win98 got freeze when on Internet after just a few minutes - tried updating IE5 to IE5.1 - made no difference. Then installed Netscape and got same sort of resultss. So, since that was worse, Uninstalled win98 back to 95 - going downhill now fast because cannot get IE or Netscape to connect Reinstalled Win98 as assumed Uninstall stuffed it. Problem persists. When starting IE5 I get 'Cannot find server' message - no attempt to connect to modem/dialup. On Netscape get 'Unable to create network socket connection' On Gozilla get 'Windows sockets initialisation failed' Have no problem actually connecting to my ISP via dial-up connection - it's getting the browsers etc. Looks like a TCI/IP or the like problem but don't know where to go now. (will call Microsoft tomorrow but don't expect any help from them going on past experience) Help please!!! |
