| 7294 | 2000-11-28 08:41:00 | I have an AMD Thunderbird 'Socket A' 700MHz based system built on an ASUS A7V motherboard, with a PixelView Riva TNT2 M64 32Mb graphics card. In the last 3 or so weeks anytime I try to run any graphics intensive 3D type software, eg MS Flightsim2000 etc, the screen locks up totally, requirying a hard-boot to reset. I have tried an alternative brand graphics card (TNT2 Vanta 32Mb), changed RAM (I have 128Mb PC133), loaded up an alternate harddrive with Windows ME instead of the Win 98 SE I have been running, updated the M/bds BIOS, updated to NVidia's Detonator3 drivers, updated the ASUS 4-in-1 AGP drivers, removed all USB devices and Creative PCI 128bit soundcared - all without fixing the problem. Whenever I run the Mad Onion's 3DMark2000 ver 1.1 benchmark program it always locks up at 1.7 to 2.4 seconds into the 6th test of the default test. I'm at my wits end as to what to do next? The only things I haven't changed, due to lack of resource , is the processor, case/psu and motherboard. I have double and treble checked BIOS settings.. all Shadow settings are disabled as is the PCI VGA pallette snoop...and I have not ever installed MS Backup, which I understand the K7 Athlon chips don't like. Its looking more like a processor or motherboard fault, though the respective suppliers of each of these aren't so keen to agree. The only major change I have made to my system, outside all the driver updates (which were done to fix the problem in any rate) is to update to the latest ICQ2000b. This has caused blue-screens when using their ICQPhone and also crashes my system with monotonous regularity in a similar way to the problem described above, however even when removing all but Explorer and SysTray from the Task menu, any 3D activity still hangs, so I have pretty much discounted ICQ as being the cause, tho I may yet stand corrected.Has any one out there got any answers for me?? Frustrated FlightSimmer Grant. |
