2012-04-09 09:13:00 | I've just heard of an antivirus program for the first time - Vipre (http://www.vipreantivirus.com). Out of curiosity, wainuitech could you test it and see how good it is :p | pcuser42 (130) | |
2012-04-09 09:42:00 | This is going to be a confusing answer lol. Read on: Already have (PCTek reminded me of it, I had used it, the malware section several years ago as well) - the antivirus is not that sh1t hot. Now the confusing part -- The same place (going by the name Sunbelt) used to make an separate antimalware program called counterspy. That on its own was very good at stopping/detected malware. Their antvirus stand alone program was crap. BUT ( theres always a but ;) ) when they combined the Virpe antivirus and counterspy antimalware program as one, somewhere along the line it lost some of its goodness. Doesn't work as good as it used to. Drives I scan I will run the Vipre through them, sometimes it picks up items, others it misses. Run other antimalware programs and they find things vipre missed. The biggest problem is it now contains a Antivirus, which often conflicts with others if you have it installed Eg: Nod32 or MSSE. Thats why these combo programs aren't as good as some, they dont like playing nice with other antimalware programs. Ask PCtek - and she'll be able to tell a story or two about the company and what they did ;)

2012-04-09 10:13:00 | The reason I asked is because a new friend's father does what wainuitech does, and said Vipre is really good. Seeing as I hadn't seen it mentioned it here I thought I'd ask. :p | pcuser42 (130) | |

2012-04-09 10:39:00 | Used Vipre and previously Counterspy for about 5 years with no major problems. The company got sold, the product got bloated (they combined antivirus with antispyware plus a firewall). The price went up. I swapped to MSSE and periodically run Malwarebytes and Superantispyware. Don't miss it at all. | nerd89 (14761) | |
2012-04-09 13:16:00 | We've trialled viper ourselves as well (got free copies of workstation and server versions from the distributor) and in the end decided to give it a miss and stick with eset. As already stated it is a bit bloated now and also didn't seem very easy to use.

They refunded me the remaining amount I had left on my pre-paid 2 yrs. They ignored our comments on what a bad idea it was. You're not thinking of what Chillisoft did are you Wainui? |

2012-04-10 10:15:00 | No not thinking of Chillisoft. The way it was told in several emails wasn't quite that suttle as written above. Oh BTW - did a test on a customers drive with Vipre today after reading this post last night -- Talk about put the brakes on performance.
