1268959 2012-04-08 23:19:00 My teenager's PC keep losing (4 times in the last few days) this Asus ENGTX460 driver when restarting the computer.

Computer Specs:

MB: GA-X58A-UD3R (BIOS ver FE)
CPU: i7 950
RAM: 6GB
GPU: ASUS ENGTX460 - driver ver: 8.17.12.9610
OS: Win7 Home Premium

Just lost the video driver again this morning and I did a clean reinstall of the driver just now.

Any suggestion as to why it's losing the driver so many times in the last few days? Could it be a HDD problem?

Thanks

1268960 2012-04-09 00:01:00 What do you mean by lose? They disappear? Try the drivers from here (support.asus.com). If you installed them from the cd. Where do you get the drivers from? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1268961 2012-04-09 00:14:00 It's like the drivers has been uninstalled and windows starts to install the driver. Sometimes, the resolution changes to very low and windows will start to install the video driver. bk T (215)
1268962 2012-04-09 01:20:00 Could be that Windows thinks something has changed in regards to the video card hardware and wants to reinstall it.

This could suggest some kind of hardware fault, but maybe software can cause it too.

Have you tried the latest drivers direct from www.nvidia.com ?

That's where I got the driver from.

I suspect that it could be due to a bad sector in the HDD where the driver is located. ??

When installing the nvidia driver, there are some HD Audio thingie installing too. What's this about? Why is this video card associated with hd audio?

Cheers.

1268964 2012-04-09 05:07:00 Maybe try a slightly older driver then? Maybe the latest one has bugs.

A bad sector shouldn't cause this kind of problem, it would get re-mapped by now and the data would then reside in a different sector.

If the card has HDMI ports etc then the HD Audio will be for the audio which can be used through the HDMI. Remember HDMI can carry both Video and Audio.

1268965 2012-04-09 05:22:00 Will some kind of virus cause this sort of problem??

Other than that, the system is running fine and we have MS Security Ess and Spybots installed.

1268966 2012-04-09 05:29:00 If it were a virus, it'd probably crash all the time as well. Not just disappear all the time. Check that the card is in properly. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1268967 2012-04-09 05:35:00 A virus seems unlikely, it's not the kind of behaviour one would expect from a virus but anything's possible (it could be a side-effect)

My opinion is that it would be something funny going on with the video card itself or perhaps the driver.

1268968 2012-04-09 06:29:00 Do a search on google. Just put in the search box graphics drivers keep uninstalling on boot up. Quite a few differant answers to the problem.
