1268857 2012-04-08 08:51:00 Hi,

Can I gain or lose information if I compress all of, sic., C Drive to gain space?

Conversly if I did that would the overall speed be compromised? and also would the computer take longer to search for info?

I see it will take 17 hours or more,so it must be a massive undertaking- I actually started but got cold feet and cancelled.

I have plenty of space at the moment but---?:devil
:help:

1268858 2012-04-08 08:53:00 I have heard of people doing it and then losing data.

1268859 2012-04-08 10:03:00 Honestly, with how cheap storage is these days, it really is not worth the hassle to use Windows' drive compression functions. You'll just end up making the damn thing so bloody slow. inphinity (7274)
1268860 2012-04-08 22:36:00 Hi all,

Thank you- that confirms my suspicions, and as you say space/hardrives are pretty cheap all said and done.

My generation required NOT buying much hardware to save money - what a throwaway world ;-(

1268861 2012-04-09 01:16:00 I wouldn't bother.

It would probably hinder data recovery if you ever needed to do so anyway, which isn't a good thing.
