1268862 2012-04-08 03:25:00 Hi, my operating system is XP - a Toshiba Satelite laptop. Can someone please reccommend a good quality fully functioning free screen recorder that will enable me to record both the video AND audio as it plays on my screen. I downloaded CanStudio screen recorder and its very poor quality, stops and starts as it feels like it and it does not sync well with my sound card. Any assistance would be appreciated. Cheers Aporosa (5671)

1268865 2012-04-08 03:43:00 Hi Somebody, are you saying Window Media Encoder will do this? Aporosa (5671)
1268866 2012-04-08 03:47:00 Yes. I used it about 5 years ago to do exactly what you're describing - recording my screen + audio. No problems with audio/video sync, and it's free too. somebody (208)
1268867 2012-04-08 06:54:00 I did a recording recently with VLC.

Quality was excellent, once I tweaked the settings to get everything working how I wanted it.

Problem was it used a lot of CPU time, and that was on a quad-core machine too. If your machine is fast enough it should work but might give lag problems on a slower one.

Haven't tested it on anything else ... yet.
