1268569 2012-04-06 05:05:00 I have for many years followed the Word filename convention: "xxxxxxx, ddMmmyy", for example "Word Filename Convention, 06Apr12". Another of my long-time habits (among the few such that are suitable for mention on a public forum) is that I collect useful IT- and applications-related advice and tips, and save them in a standardised Word format that is easily classified, filed, and searched. Part of this format is that the filename is shown on the left of the footer to each page.

I persist in using MS Office 2003 - can't stand the B*** Ribbon - and have recently noticed that when I have completed a new document of this sort, saved it with a suitable filename in the format as above, and make a final check in Print Preview (or worse, actually print without previewing), the capitalisation of the Mmm month abbreviation in the filename footer has vanished, i.e. the month has become mmm. As I say, I have used this filename format for years - since about the time the original version of MS Office came out, which introduced long-form filenames - and had never experienced this problem until about a month ago.

Obviously, this mysterious problem is more irritating than actually crucial, but I would love to know what is happening and how to fix it. All suggestions gratefully received!

1268570 2012-04-07 04:56:00 How are you creating the footer text? I have Word 2000 and you can create the filename of the document using autotext or using a field. The field method has a great many options including changing the case of the filename, etc. I wonder if you've inadvertently changed the case of the filename shown in the footer somehow. Rod J (451)
1268571 2012-04-08 06:01:00 I had wondered about that. I select "Filename" from the Autotext drop-down menu on the left of the Footer field menu. I may have to experiemnt a bit with a test version of the standard file. tinakarori (5695)
