1245675 2011-11-26 19:41:00 unfortunately the referendum was defeated by 55%, we get to keep the crap system that is MMP.

I am disappointed that MMP looks like it's staying and I'm also disappointed that Nick Smith has been returned as the MP for Nelson, as he is going to try and bully through a new road that most don't want and will turn the area it divides back into the Ghetto it was 10 years ago. This particular area has worked extremely hard to pull itself up and now it's going to be turned back on the whim of a loony MP

1245677 2011-11-26 19:57:00 The media love Winston, but in reality, what can he do and what will he achieve in Parliament?

Short of sucking the taxpayers for another 3 years, he stands to achieve nothing - he is in the opposition - a waste of space............... In the past , MP's like Winston have exposed dodgy dealing, secrets that who ever is in power are trying to keep from other parties as well as the rest of the country until its to late to do anything about it.

I cant see that changing this time either. He tells it like it is, not covers a turd in sugar and call it sweet treat.

1245678 2011-11-26 20:06:00 Part of the Green increase and the Labor downgrade was the fact that the Labor backed unions at least here in Nelson were telling their members to give their Party Vote to the Greens. This happened at the Trafalgar Centre the day Phill Golf visited them. Arnie (6624)

That's due to the Emu effect that has hit the whole country

1245682 2011-11-26 20:57:00 The provisional referendum count confirms that my earlier comment that the f*ckwit factor is not only alive but strong and flourishing in the New Zealand electorate.

Ken it’s a matter of the ever dwindling amount of intelligent life left in NZ. ;)

Here for your amusement. 98,967 votes (34.15%) in part “B” of the Referendum were declared informal.

Looking at the other choices, Informal appears to be the preferred alternative system. :clap

Part B - If New Zealand were to change to another voting system which voting system would you choose?
Response Number of Votes Percentage of Total Votes
FPP 92,416 31.89%
PV 23,749 8.19%
STV 32,564 11.24%
SM 42,120 14.53%
Informal Votes 98,967 34.15%
Total Votes 289,816 100.00%

Oh and only 65% of all those eligible to vote bothered. So 35% of the Voting Population couldn’t be bothered choosing between morons.

Wouldn't that mean they didn't vote in part B? I've heard of people thinking that because they opted to keep MMP they can't answer part B
