1245151 2011-11-24 05:51:00 It kind of illustrates how those in parliament are still struggling to understand the internet. Who ever gets in after the weekend :D:

Now how do we enter the credit card details  Some bright member of parliament may know (contradiction of terms there) -- COOL -- Ok lets order it (www.amazon.com)

1245152 2011-11-24 09:12:00 Achtung!

Alert the Electoral Anti-Terror Squad immediately.

I have it on good authority that sheets of paper to be handed to every voter not only illegally mention every politician standing in the electorate - the parties are all mentioned too! The brazen swine are actually planning to hand these things out in the polling booths - is nothing sacred?

Obviously this will totally pollute the poll, so the elections will have to be cancelled and all politicians discharged from office for a 3 year non-political amnesty until a true secret ballot can be held where the voting papers are not only blank, with all papers burned immediately the voter returns them, but the only approved marker is a glass marble. The ashes from the burnt voting papers shall be thoroughly mixed and then weighed. The polling place with the heaviest ash return will get free bear and doughnuts, the others get the thanks of a grateful nation. All candidates for office shall be mustered in an arena and issued with spiked clubs. May the best man/woman win.
The survivor shall be hanged for murder, then in 3 years there will be a fresh call for volunteers.

How kind, just thinking it'd the internet they struggle with.

Wouldn't it have been nice for one of them to have stood up and said something, anything.

No, I don't think even that will do it :p

And isn't the Electoral Commission/whatever independent from Parliament?

1245155 2011-11-24 21:38:00 I especially want to highlight this part of the presser - "Comment functions should be disabled on all websites, including social media sites, until after 7pm on election day to avoid readers posting statements that could influence voters." We think that's insane and we're not going to do it. We couldn't even do it on our website! We could shut down the forums, yes, but comments have to be turned off on an individual basis. We don't want to have to do any of that.
I find it rather pathetic to think that some people are so dim witted that they could be swayed by anything said on election day when we have had weeks of BS. This would have to be one of the most boring pre-elections I have known.

1245157 2011-11-24 23:39:00 It's one of those weird things. I'm sure I read a story in the last year saying that reports of how different parties were polling in different electrates actually affected who went out to vote -- so people who were planning to vote for the party that was reported as being behind in the polls were put off voting, for example.

It makes me wonder how broad "influence" is.

Threat of $20,000 fine?

Realistically, they will probably be forced to re-evaluate the stance post-election. :-)

which turned out to be picking up John Key and staff and giving them a free lift, during the last 48 hours of the election."
