| 1245141 | 2011-11-24 04:24:00 | Come on BM, that only applies to our brown brethren!! They can say whatever they like about any matter at all. Unfortunately we cant. As far as the slimy politicians and the poofter trendys who make these stupid rules, they can all get stuffed. Hope I have offended someone with this rant. Ken |

| 1245142 | 2011-11-24 04:33:00 | I especially want to highlight this part of the presser - "Comment functions should be disabled on all websites, including social media sites, until after 7pm on election day to avoid readers posting statements that could influence voters." We think that's insane and we're not going to do it. We couldn't even do it on our website! We could shut down the forums, yes, but comments have to be turned off on an individual basis. We don't want to have to do any of that. | Siobhan Keogh (16063) | ||

Like you say its INSANE! |

Like you say its INSANE! Yeah, we know it's extremely unlikely anyone would attempt to fine us or anyone else unless they go out of their way, which is why we're just asking politely rather than shutting anything down. We really don't want to be jerks about it. We're kind of in a unique position in that we have a really politically active forum, where other news pubs like Stuff can just make sure to not turn on comments all day and they're fine, you know? I'm glad I'm not going to be a TradeMe mod on Saturday though! Would be a hard job. |

Every other time, its been on the news or actual Electron progress etc -- but now it cant: Restrictions apply to photographing or filming voters or candidates at or near polling places on election day Broadcasters should take care with any items that feature candidates or parties, or include interviews with candidates or party officials. If in any doubt, broadcasters should delay broadcasting an election-related item until after the polls close at 7pm. |

| 1245147 | 2011-11-24 05:17:00 | I am amazed that people are amazed at the amazing stupidity of those amazing little gnomes in Wellington. If it makes sense ban it, if only to stop any risk of politicians looking like the dimwits they are. Free speech? Hah. Speech will be taxed and the rights sold off to whoever bids loudest, or third, or nearest lunchtime or whatever suits the drongos. In fairness to the population, could politicians be forbidden from speaking at any time from 3-1/2 years before the election? This might unfairly increase the re-election chances of most of them, so perhaps they should just hold their breaths to comply with the "First do no harm" dictum. I'd vote for that. |

I actually laughed out loud at this, thanks. I really appreciate how cool you guys are being about this. Seriously, thanks. I knew you wouldn't be happy (and fair enough) and I'm not really happy about it either. It kind of illustrates how those in parliament are still struggling to understand the internet. |
