2011-11-23 08:28:00 | Why didn't they just use a crane ? | wmoore (6009) | |
2011-11-23 09:11:00 | Because that would have been too easy. | icow (15313) | |

2011-11-23 10:34:00 | I want to know why there were all the cameras there and it was being streamed live? Have they done that in the past?

Looks to me it was a wire strike with the tail rotor, accidents do happen. A branch blew down yesterday and went thru the neigbours garage, no hi viz jackets could have prevented that. |

2011-11-23 19:20:00 | It was obvious what happened. A rope attached to the top of the tower can be clearly seen coming down in an curve - one man pulled on the rope making it taught and effectively shortening the length causing it to move into the path of the main rotor blades. It appears he noticed the rope was close to the blades, however failed to understand some basic mathematical principles in the heat of the moment. Clearly a crane looks like it would have been better suited for the job - however when you see how close the fire engine was to no being able to fit through the arch you can understand why they opted for a helicopter!
