| 1268642 | 2012-04-06 11:21:00 | Hello there, Recently I brought a brand new power supply unit online . Its an Aywun brand and 750watts . I've upgraded my PC but I cannot see anything displayed on screen . I am assuming this has to do with the mere fact I may have the wrong power supply unit because my motherboard has an EATXPWR connector: 20pin + 4 pin type and a ATX12v connector for my CPU . I don't know what I am supposed to do from this point forward because I think I might fry my CPU out because I don't have that 4 pin connector . You see, I am so used to the old ATX power supply units which used to come with a four pin connector that I can use to connect my CPU with . At the moment the main power connector uses all 20+4 pins and I do not have the 4 pin connector for my cpu . There are extra bits of other cables I have no idea what they are used for . Its been many years since I have last upgraded . So does this mean I have to buy again another powersupply unit to solve this problem that may cause my screen not to display anything? I hope someone can help? Thanks I don't have a video graphics card at the moment, but thought the onboard vga would be sufficent to show something on screen at least until I get my video card delivered to me soon . | 1268643 | 2012-04-06 11:26:00 | If you dont connect the 4 pin (for the CPU) it wont turn on. You need it for the CPU. Take the PSU back and replace it with a PSU, thats got the 24 pin connector for the power and a 4 pin for the CPU. You need both connectors | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 1268644 | 2012-04-06 11:49:00 | It's probably because Aywun PSUs are junk. OK, it may be not, but they are cheap and nasty. If I were you I'd take it back and get something better. $70 for what they claim is a 750 watt PSU? A decent 750 watt PSU is over twice that price. |

Dont worry if your cpu wasnt powered ten your doing less damage to it than just normal wear an tear and you can still run it even if you only plug in a 4 pin cable. But its highly recomended you use an 8pin if possible and a decend power supply. Iv had a few mates just about wreck there pcs because there psus broke so they bought a cheap replacement. | Slankydudl (16687) | ||

| 1268647 | 2012-04-06 12:27:00 | Yeah i was thinkin it odd that the psu wouldnt have it. It will look like a pcie power cable but will have 2 sets of 4 pin connectors. Plug them both in on the top left hand side connector and it will work. If the psu is modular put them on there own rail if possible. Try not to use 4 pin if 8 pin is avaliable. If your cpu uses over 120w then definatly use 8pin as there is a large amount of resistance at these plug points so the more you have the better. | Slankydudl (16687) | ||

Thanks @Linw, Yes you are right. I just happened to look on the side of the box and it had 1x EPS 8 PIN (whatever that means) /ATX 4 pin. So I guess this is what I can use? Thanks. @Agent_24, you are definetly on the right track in price. Cost also played a factor in my decision and sometimes the other brands were more expensive than the cost of a new processor itself. If there are better PSU's than the one listed, which one would you recommend as a replacement? Thanks for your response. @ Slanky dudl, my cpu socket has only 4 pins not 8pins unfortunately. My guess is my new motherboard is too old after all. Yet again it was a cost thing and trying to find a motherboard that would cater for a core 2 duo processor which only limited me with few options in the end. Appreciate for your help and everybody elses. |
