7791 2000-12-28 22:34:00 Why do isp's regard downloading music as being idle, hence disconnecting you sometimes during overnight mp3 downloads etc? It seems strange, as data is travelling through the phone lines, or is it because it is not in html etc format like web pages? I have just got connection keeper and will see if i can keep my connection, as it cna be annoying when you wake up expecting to find your mp3 downloads ready for a listen, only to find you had been disconnected during the night. It is possible for ISPs to 'tag' certain types of traffic and prioritise it differently.

My guess is that your ISP doesn't like people downloading MP3s over several hours, thus hogging the available bandwidth.

Why don't you ask them?
