7844 2001-01-01 21:43:00 I recently upgraded to Win ME and have experienced a problem with my modem. When people call in on my phone line, the modem is triggered and tries to answer. I don't have fax software installed, so what could be setting this off? In general too, I've found Win ME to be 'unstable', on serveral occasions it has locked up and dislpayed a system unstable blue screen - which always requires a reboot. Could this be a lack of proper Win ME dedicated drivers?
Regards
Peter.

Your modem issue: it does sound like it isn't set up right.

Go to Control Panel | Phone and Modems options, and check that you have the right type of modem installed. If you go to the modem manufacturer's Web site, you should be able to locate the AT command that disables auto-answer. You can then put that into the initialisation string box.

Windows 98 had a small Dial-Up Server component, that was optional. Have you installed that?
