| 7953 | 2001-01-11 08:22:00 | I have just installed a Cardex GeForce MX 32MB RAM into my system to replace my Diamond Viper TNT PCI card. Installation went reasonably well apart from having to update the Ali chipset drivers for the motherboard. The computer worked after this without the lock-ups I was experiencing. Now I have found that when I set the screen resolution to 1024 X 768 at a refresh rate of 85Hz, the screen displays a blurry picture. The picture is blurry to the point where you can?t watch it for too long without it being uncomfortable on the eyes. If I drop the refresh rate down to 60Hz the picture is acceptable but I find that sort of refresh rate is too hard on the eyes. Other refresh rates between 60Hz and 85Hz produce abnormalities in the shape of the picture meaning I have to adjust the screen height and width. The blurriness seems to drop as you bring the refresh rate down to 60Hz. Resolutions at 640 X 480 and 800 X 600 produce sharp images. The monitor is not a brand name one but has worked fine before and this resolution and refresh rate is within its specs. The old TNT card worked fine at this resolution and refresh rate with a very sharp image. Apart from this, the GeForce seems to be performing okay. 3D Mark 2000 scores have gone from 1400 to over 3200. I have tried various drivers including the standard Cardex drivers (6.34) as well as the Nvidia 6.26, 6.49. 7.17 etc. The 6.49 seem the best so I have stuck with those. I have also tried playing with the display settings in Powerstrip but the various settings make no difference. Is this what I should expect from GeForce? Seems unusual to me. Someone on another forum suggested that there is a known problem with some Nvidia cards: www.geocities.com Has anybody heard of this? Any thoughts on how I can get back up to 85Hz at that resolution would be appreciated. My system is a Jetway 542B motherboard (with latest BIOS) Ali chipset, with an AMD K6-2+ 500, Win 98, 128MB RAM, 4.3 GB and 1.2 GB H/drives, Cardex GeForce MX 32MB RAM. The monitor is a C.itoh 17? (manufactured by Funai). Thanks Darry Lennane |
