| 7917 | 2001-01-08 05:51:00 | I have recently bought a 2nd PC and initially networked it (successfully)with the original machine. Both PCs had modems and I can connect either to the Internet. Both had the same setup in terms of network protocols. While the old machine (IE5.0, 28.8k modem)works happily on the internet, the new machine (IE5.5, 56k modem) doesn't. It will usually connect OK but as soon as you try to select a new URL the Computers Icon in the status bar stops flashing and eventually you get a 'page cannot be displayed' error. Right clicking the icon shows that the modem is still connected but pinging a known URL results in a lock up in the DOS window. Believing a network conflict to be the problem, I removed the NIC and reset the network protocols to MS Family Logon. Dial up adapter and TCP/IP. This improved the situation marginally but the modem still seems to lock after you have visited 4 or 5 different URLs. I do not supsect the 56k modem to be the problem as it worked fine in the old machine. |
