| 8018 | 2001-01-15 23:58:00 | After some years of use my Apex PCMCIA laptop modem, connected by either the land-line or cell-phone to Xtra, failed by indicating there was no dial tone. The Dynalink replacement modem gave no problems during installation.Testing the connection by using Hyperterminal and connecting Direct to the Com Port using atw2dt 087303030 produces 5200 V42bis and the LOGIN prompt. After Login Name and Password is entered 'Verifying User Name and Password' is shown but then machine language appears. Normal internet dialing to Xtra produces similar results except that the final result is 'Disconnected from the computer you dialed' The communications driver COMM.DRV has not been replaced by reinstalling Windows 98 SE or the modem CD. Technical support from both XTRA & Dynalink are unable to identify what is causing the problem. Any suggestions - please!! |
