1269987 2012-04-14 10:52:00 What is the difference between these and ordinary SATA hard drives?

Will they fit into a standard desktop hard drive mount?

Do they have standard SATA connectors?

Can they be used in a desktop pc?

1269988 2012-04-14 11:13:00 IBM what? Laptop/Desktop? If its a laptop its probably 2.5, a desktop is normally 3.5. So, you'll need an adapter (so it'll fit in a case). If you want to remove it from a laptop. Apart from, that there is no difference. The plugs should be the same Speedy Gonzales (78)

1269990 2012-04-14 11:38:00 OK. That should work in a desktop. If the motherboard supports SATA 2. Otherwise you'll have to change the jumper on it to SATA 150 (if the motherboard is old / supports SATA 1) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1269991 2012-04-14 11:48:00 Motherboard is SATA 2.
Why are they so cheap? There must be a catch.

1269992 2012-04-14 14:19:00 Dont know. Its not a common brand to install in a case Speedy Gonzales (78)
1269993 2012-04-14 20:56:00 The IBM simple swap drives are usually in their express server products. Its basically just a standard SATA drive with a caddy designed to go into the server case. I have previously used cheap SATA drives and reused the caddy with no issues. Webbnzl (8810)
