1269680 2012-04-12 09:06:00 You could do it with a PS/2 keyboard / mouse. You have to change an option in the BIOS. I dont think you can do this with a wireless kb or mouse tho Speedy Gonzales (78)
1269681 2012-04-12 09:14:00 ohh what do you mean by ps/2 keyboard and mouse. stratex5 (16685)

A keyboard that plugs in using a small round connector instead of USB, i.e. the older type.

1269684 2012-04-12 09:33:00 You cant do it then Speedy Gonzales (78)
1269685 2012-04-12 10:03:00 There is a way. It involves the switch at the wall plug.

Set your BIOS to "ON after power interrupt". Then when you flick the wall switch the system will awaken.

On the other hand, maybe your friend showed you a system waking from sleep, rather than being truly off.

1269686 2012-04-12 10:09:00 It is possible, I've done it, but not exactly from the keyboard.

My media Center had a TV tuner card with IR remote on/off on it. The IR controller has a power button that you can turn on/off the PC from across the room.

I ended up taking the card out as we hardly used it and were always misplacing the remote or the batteries were flat.

If you wanted to use a IR remote, you could do something like THIS (www.missingremote.com) Just need to buy the right components and have a fiddle ;)

1269687 2012-04-12 10:30:00 I use a 12 yo keyboard on my new computer. The keyboard has seperate off, sleep and awake buttons on it. Bought a MS keyboard just over a year ago which I no longer use as the x key no longer works. Have taken it apart and cleaned the contacts with no joy so reverted back to this old ps2 one.
